How Accurate Are Your Stats
A confusing thing. As I mentioned in my post
Year of the (White) Monkey, I was getting multiple daily hits from my home town. A friend suggested that I needed to block my own IP address.
Which I achieved by setting up a filter as shown below.
But then a few days later I got another hit from my home town. I rechecked my IP address. It had changed. WTF!
So if my IP address is always changing then everyone elses is too.
I googled "why does my IP address keep changing" and saw this very straight to the point discussion on some forum:
A way back I was getting hits from a friend who said they had not been on my site that day but when pressed further said that when switching on the phone and opening Google Chrome, my page had been the last thing they had opened the previous day and so unbeknown to them, I was clocking up yet another hit.
The same can be said for people who have a particular website saved as their homepage on their computer who when switching on each day automatically add another hit. Imagine big businesses with this set up with 200 employees whose homepage on their work PC is the companies own website. 200 hits straight off, every morning. Bham.
So, how accurate are your stats? Not as accurate as you think they are!
