I'd been biding my time for a visit to Jeti-Ögüz waterfall. This season was so dry. More than 5 weeks with almost no rain. Waiting and waiting, I could wait no more.
The walk-in:
If you're in Karakol and done with the Ala-Kul Lake Trek, why not spend a night in Jeti-Ögüz. Cholpon and her daughter at Emir Guest House will look after you.
Tucked away at the bottom of the infamous Jeti-Öguz rock formations, her neat guest house in a location to die for. Quiet as can be. I spent 2 nights there, late September, drifting off to sleep with sound of the river. Make it your basecamp for visiting Jeti-Ögüz waterfall.
Jeti-Ögüz Waterfall:
Jeti-Ögüz Waterfall located N 42.2999720, E 78.2523210 It's on Google maps. No need to write a post on Trip Advisor saying you couldn't find it!
From the end of the paved road at the sanitorium it took me exactly 1 hour to get to the bridge where you turn off and then another 30 minutes climbing though the trees to the falls.
From Karakol I took a shared taxi (from the point where marshrutkha #371 should have been waiting but on the day I chose to go, wasn't.) for 100c to Jeti-Ögüz village and then walked south with my thumb out. It's an 11km road walk to the sanitorium but got lucky after 2. Secured a ride for 'zero som'. When hitching in the "Stans, always set the price before accepting.
