Someone Hacked My Weebly Travel Blog
Below is a screen shot of my copied site:
You see all MY stuff in the menu bar? It's been copied and then modified.
They changed the site title to Disney Obsessed - A Travel Blog and edited my CONTACT page and wrote something about 'hair'. Although they only seemed to have changed the CONTACT page they have taken over every page.
So how did I discover this?
I noticed unusually high FB referals
And I did some sniffing around and come up with this:
I sniffed some more and found this:
To find who is hosting a particular website you can find it using:
Who Is Hosting This.
And now I've drawn a blank. I've emailed Weebly, Godaddy and Digital Ocean. I submitted to the Google forum and am waiting desperately for replies.
I'm not in the best of moods anyway but this has pushed me further.
There are 2 BIG questions.
• Why do they wanna copy a site with low hits
• What sort of security does Weebly et al run. Obviously none at all.
As my mood is the lowest ever, I, the under dog who refuses to migrate to Word Press.
I posted on the Weebly Community page. This is their 'it's not our problem' response:
And my terse reply:
Finally, Weebly replied to me stating that as the fake site was hosted with another company, there was nothing they could do, that I should contact the new host, as I have done yet to no avail.
What really concerns me is their lack of interest. The site was hacked in a manner way above simply having logged into my account thru my own lack of carelessness ie leaving my weebly logged in on a public computer. The page about the hair is obviously a cover. I have received an message from the fake site, I tested that too, messages do go to my listed email inbox. The message was a HI THERE, they entered an email address where they should have entered a web address on the contact form. I have not replied. This is an attempt to fool me into replying and they can get my email address.
I have since removed the contact form on my own site. Any messages will be from the fake site. I can still look up the pages that were hit, the /9-hair/ page. It's also wierd that these fake pages being hit, I am acreditted with a page hit.
Weebly replied me and explained a few things and discovered how easy it is to copy. Shocked! Unamused!
So what now? I filed a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) with Google. It's quite a long process but i found a site that talked you through it.
And now I must wait a week for Google to do their stuff.
And then I tried to see the hacked site and got this:
In the aftermath of this hack I made some new pages related to security:
